Move on to Part 2: Setting up LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) from the Ubuntu Server environment we created, and how to access it from your local computer. Vagrant and VirtualBox can be used to create a local environment that matches the production environment of your server. You can also think of vagrant as a package manager that has a repository of different operating systems to use. Note: All these commands must be done locally from the directory in which you want the virtual machine to be installed, except vagrant box add.Īs a review, VirtualBox is the software that runs the operating system, and vagrant will give you the methods to manage them. Here is a review of the commands we used with Vagrant today. Type exit at any time to exit out of the server, and vagrant halt to shut it down. Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to in! In this tutorial, we're going to install Vagrant and VirtualBox, and install Ubuntu Server. This can reduce and eliminate bugs and errors that result from trying to develop code for a production server on an environment that does not match. For example, if you're using Digital Ocean or AWS to run a Virtual Private Server (VPS) in the cloud running Ubuntu, PHP, and MySQL, you can install your local version to have all the same versions of that software, while keeping your own computer's software untouched. Using VirtualBox and Vagrant, you can simulate the production environment of your app or website. Through the command line, you can grab any available OS, install it, configure it, run it, work inside of it, shut it down, and more. Vagrant is software that is used to manage a development environment. You can use VirtualBox to run entire sandboxed operating systems within your own computer. This is when the action of Sniper Elite 5 well and truly kicks in, for better and for worse.Īs with most stealth games, enemy alertness is a reversible state. Sure, you might catch him off guard enough to knock him unconscious or incapacitate him with a silenced pistol - but, once in a while, this rogue Nazi will round up all his Nazi pals to ruin your day. On the contrary, you are far more likely to accidentally alert a wandering enemy as you klutz and kerplunk your way through the French countryside. It is rare that you will meticulously pick off lone guards as you slink through the shadows like the spectral sniper of Nazi nightmares. Sniper Elite 5 in action, however - at least on your first run through each of its maps - is something wholly different. There are multiple routes to each objective, which incentivizes experimentation and encourages replayability for run optimization - so far, so good. The “ideal” way to play is to slowly but surely skulk through each level, discreetly picking off opponents with well-placed crackshots from across the map. You’re kitted out with a sniper rifle (duh), a handgun, and a submachine gun, as well as a variety of equipment including grenades, mines, medkits, and decoys. Sniper Elite 5 is requires closer, quicker stealth - or a fast escape routeįor the most part, Sniper Elite 5 is a pretty standard third-person shooter. This review would probably have constituted a shopping list of minor complaints had I not been lucid enough to constantly remind myself how much fun I was having.įor what it’s worth, I don’t rate that word: “fun.” It’s a near-useless descriptor that is usually lazy and imprecise, but in this specific instance, it’s the most accurate term I can possibly use. It is, put plainly, a game that is equal parts tactile and coarse, tight and janky, clever and zany. The above vignette is a perfect diorama of Sniper Elite 5, a third-person tactical shooter that is both helped and hindered by that chaos. Someone off screen with no line of sight on me sounds an alarm. Bizarrely, not a single slug connects with me until I have scaled the wall and entered the building, at which point I take a huge amount of damage from … somewhere? I take cover, stitch my wounds, and wait for things to calm down. Sniper Elite 5 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X & S.I am exactly halfway up the wall of an exorbitant chateau in rural France when my cover is blown.Īs I hang suspended from vines that have outgrown their trellis, bullets pelt the area around me, punching concentrated holes in musty stone. You then have two options: give the invite code at the top of the screen to a friend to enter so they can join you, or you can enter a friend’s invite code just below it to join them.īear in mind that anyone playing on console will have to have PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold to be able to play Sniper Elite 5 online.Īll being well, you will now be playing Sniper Elite 5 cross-play with your friend. Next, select the rectangle in the top right of the screen with your info on it you can hit F2 if using a keyboard, Y or triangle on controller. Once that’s done, enter a lobby (this includes the screen before you load your campaign save up again) to start matchmaking. To check that cross-play is set up correctly in Sniper Elite 5, go to Options > Game and then make sure Cross-Play Allowed Is set to On. You can also be invaded by players from other platforms, though it’s not yet clear if PC players can invade those on console, as that would be quite the unfair advantage to those on mouse and keyboard.Ĭross-play is enabled by default in Sniper Elite 5 you may have to make sure it’s enabled on a console-level if you’re playing on Xbox. In Sniper Elite 5, you can play with friends across PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X & S, and Xbox One as part of a co-op campaign and in the normal multiplayer. Two of those new iterations are big highlights: the new Invasions and cross-play, with each working with the other. Sniper Elite 5 may not be that huge of a change from other entries in the series for most people from a glance, but it iterates in a lot of compelling ways. However, that's unnecessary because you only need 2 channels to perform 2 differential measurements, using 2 differential probes (the probes do the summing already, no Math needed). Hi assuming that, you're considering using 4 channels to perform 2 negative and positive measurements, which you will then sum in a Math channel to give you the differential (which is why you ruled out a 2 channel device). Many families are still grappling with the secondary physical and psychosocial health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic – including an alarming surge in obesity and Type 2 diabetes among children. Dense breasts can make it more difficult for doctors to evaluate a mammogram, and so they may require additional imaging. “Breast density in and of itself is not a huge risk factor,” Dr. Friedewald said, but the thick tissues make mammogram detection for calcifications and tumors more difficult. Scientists aren’t entirely sure why dense breasts increase the risk for cancer, Dr. Every mammogram report includes an assessment of a woman’s breast density, which falls into one of four categories: almost entirely fatty some areas of scattered density evenly dense or extremely dense. It is a measure of how much fibrous and glandular tissue is in your breasts compared with the amount of fatty issue, as viewed on a mammogram These tissues include the glands that create milk, the tubes that ferry milk to the nipples and the fibrous tissue that binds them together. Sarah Friedewald, chief of breast imaging and associate professor of radiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Density isn’t related to breast size or firmness, said Dr. She also noted that she had dense breasts – a common classification that can increase the risk of developing the disease. On Wednesday, Katie Couric revealed she had breast cancer. “One of the most critical periods where intervention is needed and can have the greatest impact is pre-pregnancy, but is often limited due to fragmented health insurance or limited health care access,” Khan said. She emphasized the idea of a “zero trimester,” or optimizing a woman’s health before she is pregnant. “And the pandemic sparked it.” Khan said that also applies to Black women, who have the highest maternal mortality rate in the United States. But Khan, who has written or co-written several studies related to pregnancy and heart health, likened the general health inequities that existed before 2020 to firewood. Sadiya Khan, assistant professor of medicine in the division of cardiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, said it was too early to know what was behind the increase. Risk was highest among women 40 and older. For every 100,000 births, there were 18.2 deaths among Hispanic women, up from 12.6 in 2019. Their mortality rate jumped sharply in 2020 – up 44% from the year before, according to the data from the CDC. But for people who care about women’s health, one number about Hispanic women stood out. The COVID-19 pandemic produced no shortage of somber statistics. There are several targets, amyloid and tau included, that need to be considered in the fight against Alzheimer’s pathology.” Now, Gefen said, “it’s generally accepted among the scientific community that amyloid is not the only culprit. Historically, amyloid plaques have gotten most of the attention, she noted – with drug development mainly aimed at reducing amyloid plaques in the brain. It also highlights the link between tau accumulation and the dementia process, Gefen said. “The study of super-aging establishes that dementia is not inevitable – that withstanding ‘abnormal aging’ is possible,” said lead researcher Tamar Gefen, assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Super-agers have far fewer tau tangles in a memory-related area of the brain called the entorhinal cortex. In previous work the investigators found that those unusually sharp seniors are similar to their cognitively average peers when it comes to amyloid plaques: Both groups have comparable amounts in their brains. Researchers at Northwestern University have been studying super-agers for years. What’s more, those big brain cells were relatively free of “tau tangles,” one of the key markers of Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers found that in a memory-related area of the brain, super-agers had larger neurons than elderly adults with average brain power – and even in comparison to people thirty years younger. Researchers have discovered another clue as to how some older people stay sharp as a tack into their 80s and beyond: Their brain cells are really big. The program lets developers limit their number of sales, use secret URLs or password protection for game pages, and add tiered purchases and rewards. The pinnacle of this approach is Itch.io’s early access program for unfinished games, dubbed Refinery. “Do things that’ll let developers do weird stuff and interesting stuff.” Jared Newman/ PCWorldĬustomizable game pages are one of Itch.io’s defining features. “The mentality of the store was, do what the other people aren’t doing,” Corcoran says. Corcoran also allowed for alternate descriptors on the site’s buy button, confirmation emails, and other site elements, so for instance a shopper might find they’ve purchased a “ game art album” or a “psychedelic experience” instead of just a “game.” Another wanted a game page that slowly shrank over time. One developer wanted limited-time pricing that was more expensive than normal. Why do we need this? Why do we care?’”īut he also started fielding requests for unusual features that didn’t exist on other stores like Steam. The sentiment from people that did reply, on Twitter and stuff, was like, ‘Oh, another store. “I had a hard time getting people interested. The first version of Itch.io-the name comes from a cheap domain Corcoran bought years ago-launched in early 2013, to practically no fanfare. Shoppers would be able to pay any price above a minimum as a show of appreciation, and the whole marketplace would be decentralized, with no way to browse the entire catalog or comment on any of the games. Developers would get to list their games for free and customize their game pages. He wanted to create something more open, inspired by the online music marketplace Bandcamp. Taking flightĬorcoran started working on Itch.io in late 2012 as a response to Valve’s Steam Greenlight program, which used a community voting system to let indie games into the store. With the support of Axolot Games, the team founded the studio Redbeet Interactive, moved to Skövde and continued the development of Raft.“I don’t want to fall in that trap of just trying to rebuild Steam, and then I lose because I don’t have the engineering resources that they do,” he says. With their common passion for survival games both parties felt this was a perfect match and soon after decided to work together. With their sights set on a Steam Early Access release in 2018 they met with Scrap Mechanic developers Axolot Games in search for an investor and publisher. They quickly decided to keep developing Raft into something bigger and better. This type of response came as quite the shock to the developers. While the group was home on Christmas break, Raft was starting to get noticed by more and more youtubers and gained a lot of traction on Itch.io.īy the end of May the prototype had been downloaded over 7 million times and was covered by several major youtubers such as Jacksepticeye, Markiplier and FGTeeV. Said prototype was released for free on Itch.io December 19th, 2016, right before christmas. A group of three students spent around 15 weeks half-time to create a prototype for a survival game set on an endless ocean. Raft started as a student project at Uppsala University, Campus Gotland fall 2016. The studio is currently developing Raft, which is its first project.
